A new Martin Simpson recording, available exclusively from Bandcamp on Friday 2 April 2021 – ‘Live Before Lockdown, Bootleg 2019′
In 2019, just before Christmas, Martin performed his last concert of the year in his home town of Sheffield. It was recorded, with no particular plan to release, through the mixing desk by Tom Wright, Martin’s front of house engineer on the night. It is a testament to the respective talents of these two friends how jaw-droppingly good this recording sounds.
Little did we know what was to follow in 2020. Lockdown brought lots of new creative ideas, not least a fantastic new album in the shape of the Topic release, ‘Home Recordings’, recorded at home, (this time with Tom in another room entirely, masked up and careful), but to hear this live performance now brings a huge wave of emotions. A remembering of what we’ve been missing and what will come back.
We’re delighted to announce that this Friday, Martin will release this live recording available as a download only, exclusively via the Bandcamp website. Bandcamp has been a fantastic support to musicians these last twelve months, waiving all it’s fees on the first Friday of every month since March 2020, to support musicians who have lost all their live work during the pandemic.
We are really grateful for this support and for all of yours and we hope that you like this fantastic quality recording, of a great and unwittingly poignant event.
Don’t forget, this Friday 2 April 2021, Martin’s Bandcamp page will go live at 00.01 hours (not before!) and then you will be able to download ‘Live Before Lockdown, Bootleg 2019’. https://martinsimpson.bandcamp.com/
