Martin Simpson Workshop Announcement November 2020

Hi all, due to Sheffield being now in a higher local lockdown tier and the unlikelihood that this will change for the better in the near future, we have decided to make some alterations to this year’s annual, weekend, guitar workshop in Sheffield.

The workshop weekend is one of Martin’s favourite things and it is a real blow to not have it to look forward to, in particular this year of all years. With the blessing of many of our regular workshop attendees who are signed up and raring to go, we have engaged the help, skills and tech wizardry of our good friend, Steve Faulkner, in order to hold a one day workshop event online on Saturday 21st November, from 10am – 5pm, UK time.

One of the major benefits of taking this online is that it opens up the possibility of people from all over the country and beyond being able to join us and we are making a few more places available in light of this. We would be delighted to see you there.

The day will run very much in the style of Martin’s in-person workshops, with Martin playing, singing and describing the techniques he uses, the thought behind the arrangements and the reasons for the tunings involved. There will be a focus on material from the new ‘Home Recordings’ album, which comes out a week earlier, with transcriptions from it being sent out in advance to all participants. There will also be the chance to revisit some classic Martin Simpson pieces. All participants will be invited to contribute questions and requests in advance as well as during the day, with Martin being available to respond live, talking about the things he loves best – guitars, songs and even banjos.

The day will be MC’d by Steve who will be socially distanced in the room with Martin, directing a variety of camera angles and shots in order to get a clearer look at finger-picking styles and hand positions. Questions and comments will be facilitated by our regular workshop attendee and friend, Ian Brown, who by now probably knows more about Martin’s workshops than Martin himself!

Martin’s weekend workshops usually cost £250 plus the hotel charge of accommodation and food plus, if you live far away, the travel costs involved also. This online day is only £125.00 per person, with the added bonus of unlimited access to tab from Martin’s back catalogue, in addition to 7 hours of unlimited access to Martin’s brain! With breaks, because otherwise it’ll be too exhausting for everyone …

If you would like to reserve a place or want any more information, please email info@martinsimpson.com as soon as possible. Places will be limited in order to ensure that each participant gets as full and valuable experience as possible from the event.
